Tour de Fronds is sponsored by the Powers Lions Club
The Powers Lions Club was chartered in 1942 and is currently comprised of 26 members. To reflect on the history of the club is to get a picture of the development of the community. In fact, the club predates the incorporation of the city by several years.
Despite changing economic conditions in the community, due to lack of availability of government timber, the club has continued to thrive.
Past projects include the purchase of a seeing-eye dog, maintenance and development of the city-owned Orchard Park, sponsoring a lifeguard program, building and operating a community skating rink, building a tennis court, and an addition to the public library. Recent projects include new restroom facilities at Orchard Park, a sixty-foot steel flagpole and adjoining veterans' war memorial.
Right now we are conducting a dangerous tree removal project at Orchard Park.
Ongoing projects include sponsoring scouting programs, providing eyeglasses, an annual Easter egg hunt, all-sports banquets, an annual fireworks display and basketball and softball tournaments.
All successful events depend on the combined efforts of many faithful supporters.
